UTS HELLENIC ???

Established in 1988, UTS Hellenic is one of the younger Greek University clubs. We pride ourselves on bringing a fresh, exciting and innovative element into what is already a jumping Greek social scene. UTS Hellenic members, both on and off-campus, are given many opportunities to relate and interact on both a social and cultural level. Over the years, past dedicated committees have made it their objective that their members get the full UTS Hellenic Experience which is basically that you, our members, are given every opportunity to taste the delights of the season. This may be through our famous on-campus barbecues where more than one member has overdosed on tzatziki, or through our various social and cultural events.

Feel like dancing? Want to dress up? Well, look no further because UTS Hellenic knows how to cater to your every social need! Events such as our unforgettable Taverna Nights and amazingly elegant Charity Ball are trademark of the UTS Hellenic dedication to going all out for its members. UTS Hellenic, as a proud affiliate club of NUGAS, also unites with its affiliate clubs to bring such mega events as the crazy Annual Fancy Dress and the life-changing Mid-Year Trip. Perhaps the best things that UTS Hellenic will bring you as a member are the great friendships formed among our members. Using their Hellenism as a common ground, members have formed friendships that have enriched their lives greatly.

UTS Hellenic also recognises the importance of the culture and heritage we have inherited as young Greek-Australians and looks to enrich its members culturally. Our involvement in commemoration marches, wreath laying and stalls, as well as publications for our members regarding pressing Hellenic matters, ensure that our members receive as much relevant information as possible regarding their heritage and culture.

UTS Hellenic, now entering its 14th year, is still as dedicated as ever to giving its members an unforgettable university experience that will last a lifetime!

HISTORY:

UTS Hellenic Society was formed in 1988 as a result of conscientious Greek-Australian students who wished to promote the ideals of Hellenism at university.

The dedication and enthusiasm of each committee has ensured that the society has grown from strength to strength, its membership now encompassing the entire Greek-Australian student population at UTS (now numbering over 300 members).

In addition to providing a body of unification and common identification on campus, UTS Hellenic Society also holds numerous social functions, both on and off campus, so as to foster and facilitate the development of interaction of Greek Australian students. It also serves an educational and cultural function, organising commemorative events and educational forums to respectfully observe and recognise the richness and history of our culture.

UTS Hellenic Society has as its objectives the promotion of Hellenism in Australia and the continued support of Greek Australian youth. It sees Hellenism as a major cultural force presiding within Australia with potential to achieve many and great things.

The Constitution of UTS Hellenic sets out as its objectives the following:

a) to encourage, foster, promote, develop and extend Hellenism on and off campus;

b) subscribe to, become a member of, amalgamate and/or co-operate with any organisation(s) whose objectives are altogether, or in part, similar to those of the Club;

c) encourage the awareness of social, cultural, political, intellectual and ideological issues;

d) to act as a social avenue for members and encourage the interaction of all students at the University and other tertiary institutions;

e) to develop an effective voice for Greek-Australian students;

f) to develop policies, programs and activities on education; to promote the study of problems in relation to the Greek Community in Australia and to formulate and give effect to policies that will assist in the furtherance of this and other objectives of the club.

For over 13 years UTS Hellenic Society has, and continues to be, an integral part of the National Union of Greek-Australian Students (NUGAS) and is currently affiliated to the National Union and many of its members have played vital roles in its development.

Now entering its 14th year, UTS Hellenic continues to develop and evolve, continuously seeking to provide its members with a strong body of Hellenic identification as well as providing an avenue for social interaction and the communication of social and cultural ideals.
